Human Environment in Mumbai
The way that the people of India interact with the environment affects their lives. Mumbai citizen impact their environment both positively and negatively. First of all, Mumbai isn't the most ecologically-friendly city. Built on very old sewage system, Mumbai is shocked every year with the monsoon season that leaves the sewage system overwhelmed with garbage and trash everywhere. With the dense population in Mumbai city, the cars, taxis, buses, trains and airplanes leave the city full of pollution. The littering, sewage, and the toxic waste from electricity or cars and airplanes leaves Mumbai with a dense fog almost every day of the year. With the increased population, increased garbage has made the disposal system difficult. Disposals into landfills has created unmanageable fumes that have many sick. Litter has become very unmanageable in Mumbai.
However, Mumbai should not be considered an ignorant city, or one that only impacts the environment negatively – there are also positive examples of its interactions with the environment. Mumbai is impacting the environment positively, making it less toxic and polluted, and fixing the mistakes of the past. They have upgraded their kerosene based engines to refined petroleum which has resulted in less pollution in the air and has decreased the smog over Mumbai. Mumbai has also taken great steps to build better highway systems to allow traffic control and decreased commute times. This also saves on the the burning petroleum into the air system. There has been a rationing of water to the residence and hoarding of water in tanks on high rises that allows water to free flowing water without wastage. Also, tub baths have been banned in Mumbai.
